NCAP Elite Day 1: Huske Wins Twice, Sophie Duncan Hits Wave II Cut in 400 IM

Nation’s Capital is hosting an LCM meet this weekend, featuring a handful of teams from the surrounding area.

Torri Huske, an 18-year-old from Arlington Aquatic Club, won the women’s 200 free in 2:00.19. The swim was off the 1:58.09 Huske swam a few weeks ago, but the swim still stands as Huske’s 2nd-fastest performance ever. Miki Dahlke, who competes collegiately for Harvard, came in 2nd with a personal best of 2:00.94.

Huske went on to swim a 58.80 in the women’s 100 fly, winning the race, but coming in off her personal best (57.36) again. NCAP’s Mackenzie McConagha, 18, took 2nd in the 100 fly, touching in 1:00.53. The swim marked a lifetime best for McConagha by 0.35 seconds, coming in under the Olympic Trials Wave I cut of 1:00.69.

NCAP 17-year-old Aris Runnels swam to an Olympic Trials cut in the women’s 100 back, winning the event with a 1:02.24. The swim marks a personal best for Runnels by 0.61 seconds. She came in under the Wave I cut of 1:02.69. Another NCAP 17-year-old, Sophie Duncan, picked up a Wave II cut in the women’s 400 IM. Duncan entered the meet with a personal best of 4:48.35, which was under the Wave I cut. In finals, she swam a 4:46.38, clearing the Wave II standard of 4:47.72 by well over a second.

  • Men’s 100 fly: Simon Bermudez (NCAP) – 56.09
  • Men’s 400 IM: Michael Jiang (NCAP) – 4:43.51
  • Men’s 100 back: Lawrence Redmond (NCAP) – 57.34
  • Men’s 200 free: Noah Dyer (MACH) – 1:57.22

You left out the distance events which were swum at the end of prelims yesterday. Erin Gemmell won the 800 free with a new Wave 2 cut of 8:43.41. That and her 50 this morning give her Trials cuts in every freestyle event.

Erin Gemmell won the 800 free yesterday in 8:43.41 to get herself another Wave 2 cut. She also went 25.97 this morning in the 50, giving her a Trials cut in every single freestyle event. Wave 2 in the 100, 200, 400, 800, and Wave 1 in the 50 and 1500.

Torri Huske’s best time in the 100fly is 56.69 not 57.36. I believe she did that in April
