NCAP Invitational Finals – Ledecky Breaks 9 MIN Barrier in 1000 Free

Here is a recap of the day 4 final events with results available online.

1000-yard Free

Katie Ledecky started the last night of finals at the NCAP Invitational with an astonishing swim in the girls open 1000-yard free. She touched the pads in a new American Record time of 8:59.65, being the first woman to ever break the 9 minute barrier in this event. Her time shattered the previous American record that belonged to Katie Hoff, a time of 9:10.77, done in 2007. For the boys open event, it was a race to the finish for Matthew Hirschberger and Andrew Gemmell when they clocked in at 9:01.31 and 9:01.59 respectively.

200-yard Back

NCAP’s Katie Mack was the only swimmer in the girls 13-14 A final to break the 2 minute barrier, finishing first in a time of 1:58.30, more than 3 seconds ahead of her teammate Phoebe Bacon (2:01.48). Sean Conway was victorious in yet another event for the meet, when he finished the boys 13-14 event in 1:52.55. In the girls open event, Allie Szekely took the victory in a time of 1:54.95 and for the boys, 1:46.92 was good for first place, posted by John Montesi.

100-yard IM

Megan Lynch claimed another victory for the meet, winning in the gils 11-12 100-yard IM in 59.22, and National Age Group Record Holder Brett Feyerick also won another event finishing the boys 11-12 event in 55.37, almost 5 seconds ahead of the field.

100-yard Free

Mack took her 2nd victory for the night, winning the girls 13-14 A final in a time of 49.91. For the girls open event, Ledecky came back from her impressive 1000-yard event to swim a personal best in the 100-yard free, touching in 48.28, 0.03 seconds faster than her previous time (48.31). In the boys event, it was Eric Knight who won the event in 43.86, just under a second ahead of 2nd place finisher Vince Regent (44.71).

100-yard Fly

In the boys 11-12 event, it was Tyler Sicignano who touched the pads first in 58.87, ahead of Alexander Misiaszek (1:00.21) and Andrew Tran (1:00.48).

200-yard IM

Mack took her 3rd title for the night, winning the girls 13-14 event in 2:02.53, her teammate Conway also won another event for the night, touching the boys 13-14 A final in 1:55.75. Their teammate Anna Belousova won the girls open event in 1:58.71 and Machine Aquatics’s Hugh Anderson took the victory on the boys side in 1:47.79.

200-yard Free

The 11-12 girls 200-yard was dominated by Lynch, winning her 2nd event of the night in 1:53.69, way ahead of 2nd place finisher Giulia Baroldi (1:58.58).

400-yard Free Relay

NCAP, the host club team won both the girls and boys 13-14 relays of the night. The girls team of Olivia JubinAbby HarterErin Quinn and Mack dominate their heat, winning in a time of 3:28.74. Their teammates Peter MakinDaniel WongLeo Goldblatt and Conway also dominate their heat, touching in a time of 3:15.15.

Katie Ledecky’s swim is just pure logic.
She has just finally put the 1000 free record in SCY at about, and still a little bit weaker in my opinion, the same level as her 800 free world record in long course.

Always put the things in perspective.
That’s pure logic.
I’m still more impressed by her 800 free world record which is at a higher level in my opinion. And it’s long course.

wow! maybe they should have mixed races as they do for masters meets, with men competing in the same heats as women. Katie would still have won the 1000. Would that be FINA-sanctioned?
