NCAP’s David Fitch, National Age Group Relay Record Holder, Commits to Florida

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

David Fitch, a high school junior at Georgetown Preparatory in the Washington D.C. area, has verbally committed to the University of Florida. He will join the Gators in the fall of 2021.

I am extremely proud and excited to be able to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Florida. The rapport, respect and sense of family that the Gators’ swim team has is so appealing to me.

Fitch trains with the Nation’s Capital Swim Club (NCAP), the country’s largest swim club. Specifically, he trains at the Georgetown Prep site under 3-time ASCA National Coach of the Year Bruce Gemmell.

Fitch finished 2nd in the 50 free at the 2020 National Catholic Swimming & Diving Championship. He was 4th in the 100 fly at Metros in February (50.42), the region’s top high school championship meet, and was 3rd in 2019. He was also 6th at Easterns in 2019 in the 100 breast.

Fitch, like many swimmers, didn’t get his championship season as a junior because of the cancellation of many spring meets after the global coronavirus pandemic began to ramp up. The majority of his best times were done at the NCSA Junior National Championships as a sophomore.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 21.28
  • 100 free – 46.62
  • 200 free – 1:45.48
  • 500 free – 4:42.79
  • 1000 free – 9:27.40
  • 100 breast – 57.27
  • 100 fly – 50.19
  • 200 fly – 1:50.48
  • 200 IM – 1:54.02
  • 400 IM – 4:03.82

Fitch is a versatile swimmer, and it’s not quite clear yet to which events his path will go in college.

He is also a National Age Group Record holder as a member of NCAP’s 15-16 200 yard mixed medley relay that swam a 1:37.57 in December. Fitch split 25.92 on the relay’s breaststroke leg.

Fitch joins NCAP teammate Mitchell Meyer, a member of the class of 2020, at Florida. Other announced members of the Florida class of 2021 so far include Mason Laur, Oskar Lindholm, and Joaquin Gonzalez Piñero.
