Cooper Wozencraft, a senior at Memorial High School in Houston, Texas, announced his verbal commitment to swim for the University of Virginia’s class of 2021 via Instagram:
Wozencraft won the 50m back title at the 2016 NCSA Summer Swimming Championships. He finished third in the 100m back and sixth in the 50m fly, and was a B-finalist in the 50m free. He was a member of Dads Club Swim Team’s 200 free, 400 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley relays. His top times include:
SCY | LCM | |
50 fly | 22.49 | 25.15 |
100 fly | 49.33 | 56.47 |
50 back | 22.66 | 26.67 |
100 back | 49.01 | 57.68 |
200 back | 1:48.32 | 2:09.58 |
50 free | 21.17 | 24.62 |
100 free | 46.03 | 54.03 |
200 free | 1:40.31 | 2:00.78 |
Wozencraft’s times leave him just outside scoring range for the ACC Championships but he showed strong improvement this past year, especially in the backstroke events. Since December 2015, he has gone best times in all his free/back/fly events from 50s through 200s.

Heya Cooper, very cool. Will be good to have you in the area.
Oh how the tides have turned at Virginia. I remember a swimmer I coached in club swimming getting told by Virginia that they wouldn’t have a roster spot for him, and he was a 48.9 100 fly and 1:39.2 200 free.
Solid talent. However, UVA needs more than just solid talents to climb back up the ACC.
Congrats, but why include 50 times?
