NCSA Day 3 Prelims – Live Recap

NATIONAL CLUB SWIMMING ASSOCIATION JUNIOR NATIONALS

ORLANDO, Florida – Spring championships are here. And with it, comes the NCSA Spring Championship meet held this year from March 17-21 in Orlando, Florida.

The first night in session one we saw the Nation’s Capital men and the Aquajets women dominant the field – with multiple national age group records falling. While in yesterday morning’s session, Matt Hirshberger and Alexis Wenger both broke SCY national age group records. In the session tonight, however, the pool is switched over to long course which means one thing: a shot at a whole new set of records.

While Hirshberger dropped nearly four seconds off his personal best in the 400 free, no NAG records were broken last night.

Today’s prelims will feature (both men’s and women’s) 200 free, 50 breast, 400 IM, 50 fly, and 400 free relay.

Since there are two different pools for competition (men and women are separate), there have been a lot of delays will posting the women’s results. We’re doing everything we can to get the results to you as quick as possible.

And that 43.19 moves Seliskar from 93rd to tied for 16th all-time (with Paul Powers) in the 17-18 age group.

And wow, was wondering when Seliskar was going to break 44. A 43-low now, plus a little improvement over the next year, should put him in the conversation for swimming free relays for Cal at NCAA’s next year, as I alluded to yesterday.

In response to HULK SWIM- people live to see Seliskar swim, especially in the DC-metro area. The kid is a living legend around here. He is incredibly exciting to watch, especially in short course meets because of his crazy underwaters and pre race presence.

Which is why, as much as I make fun of UVA and pretentiousness, I wish they were able to get the area’s top swimmers. From a fan’s perspective, would love to be able to watch Seliskar, Haas, Shebat, etc., swim somewhere close to home for college. Virginia Tech has come a long way, swimming-wise, but while it is an excellent school, it’s simply not on the same level as Virginia, which is generally considered one of the top five or six public universities in the country.

I am very confused as to why John Shebat was not on NCAP’s A 400 free relay. He led off their B relay in 44.82, if he had been on their A relay they would have had a much better shot at breaking the NAG record 2:56.15.

I saw him swim in last month’s HS meets… he is a “racer” with a wicked relay start.

Apparently Shebat is sick, which is why he scratched out as #1 seed in 2back yesterday.

This building gets buzzing when Seliskar is on the blocks. No sitting. And when he went 20.4 fly there was a 1000 person gasp. Dude is electric.

That 20.69 is 1/2 second faster than Conger’s 50 Fly finals time here a few years back. Does NCSA keep meet records?
