Maddy Vonderhaar, a finalist from last spring’s NCSA Junior National Meet in Orlando, has committed to swim for the University of Virginia. Vonderhaar is a breaststroke specialist, who so far has swum better on the edges with her 50 and 200 than her 100:
- 50 breaststroke: 28.90
- 100 breaststroke: 1:02.52
- 200 breaststroke: 2:14.00 (2:31.70 in LCM)
- 200 IM: 2:03.28
- 400 IM: 4:23.45

Vonderhaar swims for the Northern Kentucky Clippers, the same club team UVA class of 2015 Ellen Williamson who finished her career as UVA record holder in the 100 butterfly. She is an Olympic Trials Qualifier in the 200 breaststroke. She attended Notre Dame Academy, where she swam on a Kentucky State Championship relay, as well as placing third in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Vonderhaar’s 100 breaststroke would have placed her in the C-Final (scoring) at last year’s ACC Championship, while her 200 would have been good enough for a B-Final.
The Virginia women were ACC Champions last year, but breaststroke was one of their softer points, with Junior Laura Simon making two A-Finals and Senior Natalie Martin filling in a B and C Final. Vonderhaar could provided needed balance and depth to the Cavalier lineup as they try to stay on top of a very competitive conference.
