Nebraska Divers at USA Diving Winter National Championships

Nebraska’s divers will be in action this week as they compete at the 2015 USA Diving Winter National Championships. Winter Nationals will run from Dec. 15-20 and will take place all day in Indianapolis, Ind. Nicole Schwery (platform) an Anna Filipcic (three-meter) will compete for the Huskers at the Championships.

The championships will be used to select the U.S. roster for February’s FINA World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, which will be the final opportunity for countries to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games. Additionally, the Winter Nationals will be a chance for divers to qualify for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving, to be held June 18-26 in Indianapolis.

Both Filipcic and Schwery are coming off of strong performances at the Hawkeye Invitational. Filipcic notched first-place finishes in the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive, while Schwery earned first-place in the platform dive and third-place in the one-meter dive.

Schwery will be the first Husker to compete at Winter Nationals with the platform dive prelims beginning on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. Semifinals for the event will follow at 3:50 p.m., Thursday afternoon. The finals for the platform dive will take place on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m.

Filipcic will begin competition on Friday, Dec. 18, as the prelims for the three-meter dive begin at 10 a.m. Semifinals for the event will follow at 3:55 p.m., Friday afternoon. The three-meter dive will wrap up on Sunday, Dec. 20, with the finals beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday afternoon.
