On Tuesday October 27, the FINA Women’s Water Polo World League European preliminaries kicked-off with four matches home-and-away in various European cities.
The Netherlands, Hungary, Russia and Spain were the winning teams of the inaugural round last night.
The Dutch crushed France 12-7, while Hungary defeated Italy 17-15 after penalty shout-out was needed to untie the two teams (13-13 at the end of the regular time).
In Group B, the Russian squad played Germany and won with an easy 19-8.
Still in group B, Spain and Greece played a very balanced game but the Iberians ended up winning after penalty shout-out (17-16)
The composition of the European Groups of the 2016 Women’s World League is as follows:
Group A: Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, France
Group B: Russia, Spain, Greece, Germany
Provisional rankings:
GROUP A: NED 6pts (2W)*, HUN 2 (1W), ITA 1 (2L)*, FRA 0 (1L)
GROUP B: RUS 3pts (1W), ESP 2 (1W), GRE 1 (1L), GER 0 (1L)
* The two teams had an anticipated third round game (NED 11 – ITA 10) on October 22.
The second round of the women’s European preliminaries will take place on November 24, 2015.
