RENO, Nev. – The Nevada swimming and diving head coach Brendon Bray announced today that Ben Zajic has been added to the coaching staff as the Assistant Coach heading into the 2019-20 season.

“I’m very excited to bring Ben on board,” said Bray. “He filled all of the aspects that I was looking for in an assistant coach. I am impressed with his background, already having Division I college coaching experience as well as experience as an assistant working at the best club in the United States.”

Zajic joins the Wolf Pack after spending the past year with the Kansas City Blazers as a Lead National Coach. During his time with the Blazers, Zajic had a variety of responsibilities including creating and executing workout plans for the National Group, generating a meet schedule while also supervising employees and handled finances and travel for the club.

From May 2017 to June 2018, Zajic worked under Pete Morgan, an American Swim Coach Association Hall of Fame member and six time USA National Team Coach, coaching high school aged swimmers including National Junior team members and Summer National Qualifiers. While coaching for NCAP, the team achieved Gold Medal status, ranking first in the USA Swimming Club Excellence program.

In addition to coaching with NCAP, he was also a volunteer coach at George Mason University. He primarily worked with the middle distance group including the creation and implementation of a new strength and conditioning program used for both the middle distance and distance groups. The Patriots finished the season with a 2nd place finish in the A-10 on the men’s side, moving up from 6th the previous year along with three A-10 champions, five new team records, and seven NCAA B cuts.

Before the 2017-2018 season, Zajic was a Senior Coach for East Carolina Aquatics, working with the National Group and completing his masters in Exercise Physiology at East Carolina University. In 2015, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology while swimming all four years in the Patriot League for Lafayette College.

“I think he will bring eagerness to the program, from helping on the recruiting trail too our seasonal training and individual workout plans. I foresee us working collaboratively together and I think this hire will help us take that next step in pursuit of winning a Mountain West championship and scoring at the NCAA championships.”
