Las Vegas, Nevada’s Emelia Piccininni has committed to swim next fall at California Polytechnic State University, otherwise known as Cal Poly. Piccininni attends Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas and is a standout student in the International Baccalaureate program. Swimming for Palo Verde at the 2016 Nevada State High School Championships, Piccininni placed 7th in the 50 free, and 3rd in the 100 free individually, and was a member of the 200 free relay that broke the Nevada state record. She also led off Palo Verde’s second-place 400 free relay.
Piccininni swims year-round with the club team Sandpipers of Nevada. She is a Sectionals qualifier who improved in every single event during the 2015-16 season. Her most successful long course meet was the 2016 Western Zone Senior Championships, and she was selected to represent Southern California Swimming at the North American Challenge Cup all-star meet.

Cal Poly competes in Division I’s Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The women finished seventh at conference championships last year. Piccininni will join Sandpipers teammate and Palo Verde graduate Hailey Houck, who is currently a freshman at Cal Poly.
