Touching just a tenth behind him was Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi, who finished second in 55.80. The USA’s Nic Fink came in third for the bronze in55.87 after posting the field’s fastest 2nd 50 of 29.66. Both Martinenghi and Fink were also under the former meet record of 56.01.

Did the entire Georgia group fall apart?

Smoliga is at ASU, nat is in Gainesville, fink is at Georgia tech, Andrew Wilson is in Oxford, and the only other two people I could think of that didn’t change training locations are chase and jay

Seems to always happen with Georgia swimmers. They all go to different places and live their lives but then when Olympic Trials are a year or so out they all go back because they know Jack knows how to get them on the team

It doesn’t always happen. No one left after 2016!

The UGA training group was on the older side and most of them had been there pre-2016, so I feel like mixing things is not uncommon. Especially given Fink and Wilson moving for professional reasons outside of swimming.

Your rationale makes more sense than Timekeeper’s. No one left after 2016. They gained a couple random swimmers right after 2016 from other colleges, but NO ONE left and came back. The problem no additional UGA swimmers made the leap to National team (yet alone Olympic team) since 2016. (Yes, Luca was already a National teamer prior to Georgia but didn’t improve his first year).
Good luck to all of them that have moved on to their next adventure whether that is in the pool or outside of the pool.

IIRC Wilson isn’t swimming as seriously now because he’s pursuing a Master’s in Engineering at Oxford. I may be wrong though

You’re probably right, some advanced degree at one of the best schools in the world. I know Wilson wants to become an F1 engineer and the man is on a very good track to do so. He’s one smart cookie

Mike Norment is crushing it with Fink. Happy to see the transition to Atlanta from Athens has been a good one.
