Nick McCrory Ties Conference Record With 5th ACC Diver of the Week Award of the Season

This week, the ACC has named Nick McCrory as their Swimmer of the Week. That might sound familiar, and it should: it is McCrory’s 5th weekly award of the 2013-2014 season. 5 awards in a single season ties the conference record of Virginia’s Luke Anderson, who won 5 Swimmer of the Week honors during the 2004-2005 season.

McCrory’s latest week was his best yet, after sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in the team’s dual meet against North Carolina. His 519.00 on the 3-meter broke the Pool Record and the Duke Record, which will give him even more confidence when headed toward a potential sweep at NCAA’s.

Other award winners for the week included NC State’s Jonathan Boffa, Virginia’s Courtney Bartholomew, and North Carolina diver Erin Purdy.

Boffa helped his North Carolina State team make history as well, as they beat Virginia in a dual meet for the first time since 1992. He won the 200 free (1:37.72) over UVA’s Parker Camp: an event that Virginia is most famous for.

He also placed 2nd in the 50 free in 20.68 (behind teammate Simonas Bilis), and won the 100 free by half-a-second in 44.80.

The Wolf Pack closed the meet with a dominating 1:19.60, including Boffa, in the 200 yard free relay, going 1-2 and showing that their depth in the freestyle events is the best in the ACC – which could be a huge factor at the conference championship meet.

Boffa also had the same three individual placings against North Carolina State on Friday, and was even faster there: he was a 43.83 in the 100 free and a 1:36.72 in the 200 free.

Bartholomew won a pair of events in the Virginia women’s win over NC State at that same meet to win Female Swimmer of the Week. She was a 53.54 in the 100 backstroke, and later added a 1:56.48 in the 200 back.

And finally, North Carolina’s Purdy won all four diving events she entered in over the weekend, sweeping the springboards against both Duke and North Carolina State.
