Nick Zaffiro Commits to Bloomsburg University for Fall 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Nick Zaffiro of Parkland High School and Parkland Swimming Club in Pennsylvania has announced his commitment to swim and study at NCAA Division II Bloomsburg University (PA) beginning in Fall 2022.

He will be joined by his Parkland teammate Luke Willard

“I chose Bloomsburg to study computer science and cyber security and I am excited to swim for Coach Stu and be a part of such an amazing team. I would like to thank to my family, friends and incredible coaches and teammates who helped me along the way.”

As a sophomore in 2020, Zaffiro was a two-time finalist at the PIAA District XI AAA Championships. He placed 4th in the 500 freestyle (4:55.26) and 5th in the 200 IM (1:59.66). All of the swimmers who finished ahead of Zaffiro in the 500 freestyle and 200 IM have since graduated.

At Bloomsburg, Zaffiro will make an immediate impact in the IM races. His current best time in the 2oo IM (1:56.46) would rank first for the team this season. He would rank second in the 400 IM behind freshman Anthony Goulstone, who posted a 4:11.40 at the Zippy Invitational. In the 200 breaststroke, Zaffiro would rank 4th.

Top Short Course Yards Times:

  • 50 Y Free- 22.80
  • 100 Y Free- 49.86
  • 200 Y Free- 1:47.96
  • 100 Y Breast- 1:00.18
  • 200 Y Breast- 2:09.90
  • 200 Y Fly- 2:03.03
  • 200 Y Back- 2:03.89
  • 200 Y IM- 1:56.46
  • 400 Y IM- 4:12.16

Bloomsburg University is also the alma mater of his Parkland High School coach Rob Robitaille.

Last year, Bloomsburg University captured its first ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming title. When Zaffiro arrives to campus, Bloomsburg will have to replace top-talent Andy Thomas who is currently a senior on the team. At PSAC Championships,  Thomas won the 50 free (20.08), 200 free (1:35.53), 100 breast (54.42), and 100 free (43.35).

All swimmers on the Bloomsburg 2021-2022 roster hail from Pennsylvania, except for one. That trend is continuing in their class of 2022. Including Zaffiro, all of their announced commitments are in-state. That includes Michael Huegel and Luke Willard.
