Nikitina Sets Multiple Records at Latvian National Championships

Gabriela Nikitina set new national records in both the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly at the 2016 Latvian National Championships.

Nikitina hit the wall in the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 25.99 touching at the same time as Nastassia Karakouskaya of Belarus. She broke her own national record of 26.20, which she set in 2011. Nikitina went on to win the women’s 50 butterfly on in a time of 27.16 breaking her own national record of 27.17, which she posted in 2012.

There were two more national records set by Latvian swimmers over the first two days of competition.

Daniils Bobrovs won a close race in the men’s 200 breaststroke touching in a time of 2:14.63 14 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Denis Shilov of Russia who finished in a time of 2:14.77. Bobrovs broke his own national record of 2:14.85, which he put up in 2015.

Kristina Steins set a new national mark in the women’s 100 backstroke winning the event in a time of 1:01.72 breaking her own record of 1:01.93 which she set at the European Championships.
