Nikolajs Maskalenko Swims 3rd Latvian Record in 2 Days in Saturday Prelims

Latvian swimmer Nikolajs Maskalenko has swum his 3rd Latvian Record in two days on Saturday morning at the Latvian Sprint Championships in Riga.

The 21-year old was a 59.09 in prelims of the men’s 100 short course meter breaststroke, which knocked eight-tenths off of his old mark of 59.85.

The swim simultaneously beat out the great Lithuanian breaststroker Giedrius Titenis, who was a casual 1:00.84 to be the 2nd qualifier into finals. Titenis also held the old Meet Record of 1:00.05, swum last year.

Elsewhere in the meet, Finnish teenager Sigrid Sipp took another top seed, posting a 29.24 in the women’s 50 backstroke. She was ahead of Latvian 14-year old Arina Kaikova, who in 30.29 is approaching another National Record (29.47) to go with the one she set in the 100 backstroke on Friday night.

Full meet results available here.
