Saso Boskan led Slovenia off with a 1:48.23 to give them a slim lead at the first exchange. All five teams went with a male-male-female-female order

Interestingly enough, the 2nd leg of the race was the determinant as the order of the flying start men’s splits are in the same order as the final outcome. Hungary’s Balazs Hollo had the fastest split with a 1:46.70 as he was followed by Kamil Sieradzki of Poland who swam a 1:46.97. Poland had the lead heading into the second half of the race.

As the women took on the second half of the race, Minna Abraham of Hungary caught up to Poland on the first 50. Abraham split a 1:58.61, the 4th fastest female split of the night. Then, Nikolett Padar had the fastest split of the women as she anchored in a 1:55.37 to leave no doubt that Hungary would touch first.
