DURHAM, N.C. – Nine members of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have earned Scholar All-America accolades for the 2014-15 season, as announced Tuesday, June 30 by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Both the men’s and women’s programs were also named recipients of the 2015 Spring Scholar All-America awards for achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the spring semester. The Blue Devil men ranked among the top 25 Division I men’s teams in the country with a cumulative grade point average of 3.29 for the semester.
Rising junior James Peek received CSCAA Scholar All-America first team honors after being named to the honorable mention team last year.
As a sophomore, he was a member of Duke’s 200-yard medley relay, the first in program history to garner automatic NCAA qualification since the ‘A’ and ‘B’ standards were implemented. The relay represented the Blue Devils at the 2015 NCAA Championship, earning a spot in the consolation final.
Duke placed eight other student-athletes on the CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention teams, including Michael Miller and Kenny Ng on the men’s side and Verity Abel, Jaimee Gundry, Kendall McClenney, Kiera Molloy, Maddie Rusch and Jessie Sutherland on the women’s side.
Gundry, McClenney, Miller and Molloy also garnered All-ACC Academic recognition for the 2014-15 season.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
