Nitro’s Tate Jackson Verbally Commits to Notre Dame

The Notre Dame men’s recruiting is alive-and-well under new head coach Matt Tallman. The Fighting Irish have landed another solid verbal commitment in the high school class of 2015: sprint freestyler Tate Jackson from Nitro Swimming in Austin, Texas.

Jackson is one of the top sprint recruits in the class of 2015, and our 20th-ranked recruit overall nation-wide.

In yards, Jackson has bests of 20.09 and 44.48 in the 50 and 100 free, plus a 49.35 in the 100 fly. He should join the ranks of the sub-20 second sprinters out of high school, which so far is much rarer in the class of 2015 than it was in the class of 2014.

To be specific, nobody in this year’s senior class has done it yet, though Jackson and Andrew Seliskar (20.06) are closest.

Jackson hasn’t swum a high school season in Texas, though as a freshman he raced for power Muscatine High at the Iowa State Championship meet, where he was already impressive in the 50 free: he placed 4th in 21.62.

Jackson joins a class that includes breaststroker Ben Gorski and British sprinter Daniel Speers. Tate’s older brother Trent Jackson is currently a sophomore on the Notre Dame team.

As a relative novice to the swim world, do men get full or partial schlorships? What about women?
