Josh Cohen of Fanwood, New Jersey has announced his verbal commitment to Georgia Institute of Technology for 2019-20.
“Georgia Tech was the perfect fit both academically and athletically. Back in 2015 while swimming and winter jrs, I fell in love with the city and the facility. The coaches are amazing and the team is one of a kind. I can’t wait to start swimming as a Yellow Jacket and show everyone what I can do.”
Cohen is currently in the middle of his junior season at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and “arguably the best distance swimmer in the state” according to NJ.com. At the NJ High School Meet of Champions, he was an A-finalist in the 200/500 free double in both his freshman and sophomore years. He placed 3rd in the 500 free (4:37.13) and 4th in the 200 free (1:41.69) at the 2017 MOC in February.
Cohen does his club swimming with Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA. He has been a finalist at YMCA National Championships, in both SCY and LCM, since the summer before his freshman year in high school. At last spring’s 2017 YMCA Short Course National Championships, he placed 7th in the 1000 free, 8th in the 1650, and 8th in the 500 free, earning best times in both the 1000 and 1650. Most recently, he scored PBs in the 200/500 free at Winter Junior Nationals East in December, finishing 24th and 19th, respectively.
Top SCY times:
