The Michigan women’s swimming & diving team, with its third-straight fantastic recruiting class, looks to be turning a corner in the Big Ten and in position to begin competing with programs like Minnesota and Indiana. This year’s class, which is one of the five best in the country, includes two stars from Florida: Clara Smiddy (above) and Emily Kopas (below).
Between the two of them, they won three Florida High School State 1A Championships a week ago: Kopas in the 100 breaststroke, and Smiddy in the 100 backstroke and 200 IM.
Kopas’ best times in the breaststroke races, where she’s a member of the Junior National Team, are 1:01.92 and 2:12.50 in yards. Read all about her commitment here.
Smiddy’s best in the backstrokes, her primary events, are 52.46 and 1:56.71 in the 100 and 200 yard distances. She’s also been a 1:58.3 in the 200 yard IM. Her best times in the 100 back and the 200 IM were both done a week ago to win those aforementioned State Championships. Read more about Smiddy’s commitment here.
Congrats to Michigan! Looking forward to some exciting years ahead!
