No. 11 Indiana Women Drop Contests To LMU, Pomona-Pitzer At Barbara Kalbus Invitational

IRVINE, Calif.  –  No. 11 Indiana dropped its second matchup at the 2023 Barbara Kalbus Invitational on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 23 LMU, 12-11.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Freshman Grace Klingler and senior Robyn Greenslade got Indiana on the board in the first, but found themselves trailing the Lions, 4-2 after one.
  • Back-to-back goals from senior Zoe Crouch and sophomore Sophia Sollie knotted the game up with 5:49 to play in the second quarter. The two teams would trade goals before LMU took a 6-5 lead at the break.
  • In the third, each team added three goals as Indiana tied the game up on back-to-back goals from Klingler and freshman Louisa Downes, making it 8-8 with 3:11 to go. LMU added one late in the third to take a one-goal advantage into the fourth.
  • IU responded on a two-goal deficit with Klingler’s third goal of the day with 6:10 remaining in the contest. Crouch would go back-to-back with Klingler to knot the game at 10-all just seconds later.
  • Momentum favored Indiana with 4:50 to go as junior Sophie Wazzan converted on the five-meter attempt, but the offense would go scoreless the rest of the game as the Lions tacked on two more in the final 3:48 of play.

NOTES

  • Klinger led the way with three goals. Crouch, Sollie and Downes each added two.
  • Indiana had eight assists on 11 made goals.
  • Seven different players recorded a steal.
  • Skylar Kidd went 4-for-4 on sprints.

POMONA-PITZER RECAP

IRVINE, Calif.  –  No. 11 Indiana came up short in the finale at the 2023 Barbara Kalbus Invitational to Pomona-Pitzer, 11-8.

KEY MOMENTS

  • IU took a two-goal lead early by junior Kallie White as it held a 3-2 lead after one.
  • Sophomore Sophia Sollie added one more in the second as Pomona-Pitzer added a pair to tie the game at the break, 4-4. The Sagehens added five unanswered before junior Kiki Mein puts one in the goal with 2:57 left in the third.
  • Indiana came within as few as two goals in the fourth, but Pomona-Pitzner pulled away with a pair of goals in the final eight minutes.

NOTES

  • Sollie and White led with two goals each. Greenslade, Crouch, Mein and Klingler all added goals.
  • Wazzan and Kidd each recorded an assist.
  • Crouch led the way with two steals.
  • Indiana moves to 12-7 on the season.
