We are just one month away from the start of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, postponed from last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. As the opening ceremony date of July 23rd looms, organizers are making final preparations to ensure a safe and healthy event, including announcing the decision this week to ban alcohol sales at venues during the Games.
Head of the Tokyo Games’ organizing committee, Seiko Hashimoto, told reporters that ‘organizers have decided to ban the sale of alcohol at venues in accordance with experts’ advice.’ (AP News)
According to Japan Times, the Games’ organizers had been considering a plan to allow the sale of alcohol with some restrictions but the initial plan provoked public outcry in the country. (Forbes)
The alcohol ban appears to be more of an attempt at controlling crowds, overall behavior, and physical contact than anything else. Additionally, spectators will not be allowed to shout, bring or drink any alcohol, or wave anything in the air to cheer on athletes. (UPI)
“The festive mood will have to be suppressed—that has become a major challenge,” Hashimoto said “People can feel joy in their hearts, but they can’t be loud, and they have to avoid crowds. Those are the areas where we need to be creative, and we are putting in a lot of effort to come up with a new way of celebrating.”
Let’s see if they will not cheer when Kyle and Caeleb both dip’under 47 seconds
When this one conks out, a court in DC or NY will rule on who is the reincarnatee.
Arise seiko hashimoto, agent of the dark lord sun yang!
Just like the other poster said – the Japanese will sit politely and be quiet throughout the entire event. They will clap appropriately at specific moments, like the end of a race or a world record.
If one of the Japanese looses the clap for the winner out of respect.
Think of this is like going to watch the orchestra or going to watch a play.
Of anyone needs an example pull up Japanese MMA or Pro wrestling.
I was going to say the same thing. I always noticed how quiet they were for both MMA and Pro Wrestling.
Oh and they will clean up after themselves when the event ends!
Personally I hope no one bothers to pay for a ticket and then they have to scramble and give the tickets away. Its not that I want Japan to take a loss but I would like to see the IOC knocked off their high horse.
Yakuza will never allow that. They’re controlling the sales. They already offed one of the committee members.
If I was in Tokyo, I would sneak a bottle of Woodford Reserve into the stands and have as much fun as I wanna have!
Meanwhile, I went cycling along Enoshima, Zushi, and Kamakura beaches in “state of emergency” Kanagawa prefecture next top Tokyo. Very crowded in the Summer, with screaming, music, and partying. Drunk people doing drunk things. Last year they did not build the summer booze huts on the beach. But this year, they are building away… because drunk and untested Japanese, carrying covid19 on the beach are SAFER than negative tested foreigners entering the country. All Kabuki theater…. nothing but their standard xenophobia covered with a fig leaf of covid19 here. Japanese are EXTREMELY xenophobic. They don’t tell you this part. You have to come here and see it for yourself…
Don’t forget the VACCINATED foreigners who might have wanted to attend!
No one cares about them..If it is to happen this is easy a price to pay. It is not a buyers market where you can getv what you want because you are so wonderful .Covid has put us all in our lane.
Then why live there?
stupid cheap, amazing universal healthcare ($17 month, no deductible, no waiting time for surgery >> or anything!!), stupid cheap housing in Tokyo (thousands upon thousands of 18-20m sq apartments for $400-500 month), the hottest females on the planet, people that ignore each other. I’ve been invisible in Japan for 11 years.
Why live in america? Nearly as xenophobic as Japan but with a death and debt economy. america has more homeless people per capita than china and no healthcare system. 68,000 die in america annually because they lack adequate health care (Yale study). This happens no where else in the world. america is a failed state. Covid-19 proved america is really just a third world country with a fake… Read more »
Are there only two countries on the planet?
I mean tbh, I’m glad they’re even having it at this point.
