The 2025 Swiss Long Course Championships began today from Oberkirch with Olympic medalist Noe Ponti diving in for the men’s 50m butterfly.
Entering this competition, 23-year-old Ponti already owned the top time in the world in the event, a mark of 22.83 he produced at February’s Dubai Open Swimming Championships.
During this morning’s heats, Ponti lowered that result by .06 to check in with a top-seeded performance of 22.77, a time within .12 of the 22.65 Swiss national record he notched at last April’s Swiss Championships. That rendered him the 6th-fastest man in history.
Come tonight’s final, Ponti added slightly to ultimately get to the wall in 22.81, beating the field by well over a second in the process.
He and Dutchman Nyls Korstanje remain the only racers in the world right now who have delved under the 23-second barrier this season.
Korstanje will be racing at the Bergen Swim Festival this weekend so we’ll see how the former NC State standout responds.
