The 2023 Swiss Long Course Championships wrapped up from Geneva yesterday with several of the nation’s big guns diving in over the course of the 4-day meet.
Below are the key athletes and results.
Olympic bronze medalist Noe Ponti swept the men’s butterfly events, taking gold across the 50m, 100m and 200m distances.
In the 50m, 21-year-old Ponti punched a time of 23.48 to top the podium by over half a second. The time is a hair off his season-best of 23.34 he produced at the Lausanne Swim Cup last month.
Ponti scored a winning effort of 51.82 to handily defeat a men’s 100m fly field whose next-closest competitor touched well behind in 54.28. Opening in 24.37 and closing in 27.45, Ponti’s final time was actually slower than his morning prelim effort.
Ponti produced a heats swim of 51.52 (24.11/27.41) to put up a time that ranks him 3rd in the world this season.

Finally, in the 200m fly, Ponti stopped the clock in a solid result of 1:57.10. That got him to the wall 3 seconds ahead of the rest of the field and ranks him 14th in the world on the season.
22-year-old Roman Mityukov did some damage on multiple levels over the weekend, beginning with the men’s 200m free. Mityukov topped the podium in a time of 1:47.99, his swiftest result since last year’s World Championships.
Mityukov also reaped gold in the 100m back, punching a result of 54.34 for a new season-best and doubled up with a time of 1:57.40 to also grab gold in the 200m back. His 2back performance ranks among the top 10 times of his career.
Mityukov also got it done in the 100m free, logging a winning effort of 49.14.
National record holder Lisa Mamie was too quick to beat across the breaststroke discipline. The 24-year-old swept the 50m/100m/200m distances in respective efforts of 31.54, 1:07.34 and 2:26.26.
At the 2022 World Championships, Mamie wound up dropping the 100m breast and placed 10th in the 200m event in a time of 2:25.56.
She is the reigning European Champion in the 2breast, however, having posted a mark of 2:23.27 in Rome.
Versatile Swiss ace Nina Kost wrangled up a trifecta of victories, demonstrating her prowess across the sprints.
Kost clocked a time of 28.62 in the 50m back, 55.79 in the 100m free and 25.64 in the 50m free. The 27-year-old owns personal bests of 25.07 in the 50m free, 28.09 in the 50m back and 54.53 in the 100m free.
Not sure if anyone has noticed the pattern but in 2009, 2017, 2019, and 2021 swimmers have broken 50 seconds now that’ll likely change next year but certainly a coincidence that swimmers have only broken 50 in odd years.
