Earlier today, we received news that the North Carolina men had signed the #2 recruit out of the state of Virginia. It appears as though the women have one-upped them and snagged the top female recruit from their neighbors to the north.

Emma Nunn, who trains with NOVA of Virginia, is a supreme 200 butterflier: her best of 1:56.65 would have placed 12th at last year’s NCAA Championships and ranks 4th in the class. She’s also a very good 400 IM’er at 4:17.98.

NOVA  has become a dominant program in the women’s 200 butterfly. Last year, they sent a 1:58 Rebecca Rainer to Florida; a 1:57 Allison Titley to Richmond; and another 1:56.8 Alison Haulsee to Virginia. The year before that, Rachel Naurath also went to Virginia, and proceeded to win the 2011 ACC Championship as just a freshman. To win that title, Naurath had to beat out her teammate Liz Shaw, another NOVA alum who won 2 ACC Championships in the 200 fly.

And how’s this for scary potential – Nunn is already a tenth better than any of those swimmers were in high school, and she’s still got another year to improve that time. I think that in a few years, this could go down as one of the better recruiting jobs in the class of 2012.
