North Florida Gets Commitment from Florida State Champion Kayla Daley

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

University of North Florida has picked up a commitment from Florida native Kayla Daley. Daley swims for the Berkeley Barracudas under coach Kevin Rosepapa.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming career at the University of North Florida. Thank you to my friends and family for always supporting me and a big thank you to coach Kevin for everything you have done to get me here Go Ospreys.”

In 2021, Daley was a Florida Senior Long Course State Champion in the 50m butterfly. At last summer’s 2022 Florida Long Course Senior Championship, Daley finished 2nd in the 50m butterfly (29.03). That same weekend, Daley added another top 8 finish in the 100m butterfly, finishing 6th with a time of 1:04.93.

Last summer at the USA Swimming Futures Championship, Daley was a finalist in the 100m butterfly, finishing 28th with a new best time of 1:03.09. Daley also competed in the 200m fly and 200m IM at the championships.

“Kayla has been one of the mainstays on our team for many years and has developed into a great swimmer that deserves and opportunity to swim at the next level. She continues to improve and is a big race swimmer who loves to compete when it counts most. I look forward to watching Kayla continue to develop through her collegiate years.” -Kevin Rosepapa

At the high school level, Daley competes for George Steinbrenner High School. At this season’s Florida 4A State Championship, the Steinbrenner women finished 8th. Daley had two top 8 finishes at the meet, including a 7th place finish in the 100 fly (56.80) and a 5th place finish in the 200 IM (2:06.08).

Top Times:

  • 50 fly- 25.40
  • 50 fly (LCM)- 28.89
  • 100 fly- 55.50
  • 100 fly (LCM)- 1:03.09
  • 200 fly- 2:06.36
  • 200 IM- 2:05.68
  • 200 IM (LCM)- 2:26.06

The University of North Florida is a Division I school and the women placed 10th this season at the CCSA Conference Championships. Daley’s current best times in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM all would have put her in scoring position for North Florida at this year’s CCSA Championships. Daley’s 100 butterfly time would have been the fastest on the team for the 2022-2023 season, and will make her an immediate contender for North Florida’s medley relays.

Daley joins a well-rounded 2023 recruiting class consisting of Paige Munna, Amanda Loomis, and Riley McCormick. Munna is primarily a freestyler, Loomis a breaststroker, and McCormick a butterflyer/ freestyler. All four commits are Florida natives.
