North Texas Nadadore Mason Kelber Commits to WashU Missouri for 2019

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mason Kelber of Carroll Senior High School and the North Texas Nadadores in North Richland Hills, Texas has announced that he will be attending and swimming for Washington University (Missouri) in 2019. A distance freestyler and IMer, Kelber has career-best times in the 500 and 1650 yard freestyles that would have been invited to the Division 3 national championship meet while his IM times would have gotten him ‘B’ cuts.

“I am very excited to announce my commitment to study and swim for Washington University in St. Louis! I knew WashU was a perfect fit ever since I stepped foot on campus last fall, learned more about all the programs that WashU has to offer, and spent time with Coach Shively, Coach Stevens and the entire team. I can’t wait to join such a strong program and hope to be able to contribute to its continuing success over the next four years. A special thanks to my high school and club coaches, teammates and parents for all their support as I get ready to launch my college career.  Go Bears! Battle On!”

At the 2019 Texas High School 6A State Championship meet he took 11th place in the 200 yard IM (1:52.22) and landed on the podium with an 8th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.94). Two weeks later at the Speedo Championship Series Meet in College Station, Texas, he finished 4th place in the 1500 LCM freestyle final (16:11.98) and 6th place in the 800 LCM freestyle final (8:28.55).

Best Times in Yards:

  • 200 IM – 1:51.11
  • 400 IM – 3:59.81
  • 500 Free – 4:28.76
  • 1650 Free – 15:47.46

Kelber will be joining a Bears’ team that is fresh off a runner up finish at the 2019 University Athletic Association Championships and will bring with him career-best times in the 400 yard IM, 1650 yard freestyle, and 500-yard freestyle that would have been the number 4/3/1 times on the team respectively. He will be joining Sammy Risma, Jonathan Ma, Brad Whitehurst, Walker Ferry, and Andrei Schwartz as members of the Class of 2023, with Whitehurst being the only other D-Squad member of the bunch.
