DENTON – Behind three individual wins from junior Leigh Faires McGee and both relay victories, the North Texas swimming and diving team took their sixth straight dual victory over TCU by a final score of 161.5-138.5.
With the win, the Mean Green improved to 2-1 in dual action during the 2019-2020 season while the Horned Frogs fall to 2-2.
“I was really pleased with the girls today,” head coach Brittany Roth said. “I know everybody is battling the same conditions with both teams coming off of midseason championship meets and then going into a Thanksgiving break.”
North Texas took the top finish in nine of the 16 events. The first win came during the 200 Medley Relay to start off the day, with North Texas’ A relay consisting of senior Jowita Sienczyk and freshmen Jenny Holwell, Cierra Scully and Kaitlyn Carr clocking a 1:46.44 to secure a big 11 points to get the day started.
McGee would get her day started by clocking a 1:52.67 in the 200 Freestyle for another nine points, Sienczyk would then claim the 100 Backstroke with a time of 57.00 (9 points), freshman Saylor Hawkins would get the Mean Green nine more points by taking first place in the one-meter diving event with a score of 255.22, McGee would clock a 52.17 in for a 100 Freestyle win (9 points), junior Robyn Lee would add a 200 Backstroke win with a time of 2:05.76 and junior Ula Michalczyk would turn in a huge 2:23.77 to secure the win and nine more points in the 200 Breaststroke.
“That was huge for Ula, and it just showed how she has progressed this season.” Roth said.
McGee would take the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:04.58, and then anchor the A 200 Freestyle relay team that stole 11 points at the end of the meet with a 1:37.06, edging out the Horned Frogs by .31 of a second.
