Northeastern Huskies Introduce First Six Members From Class of 2024

BOSTON– Roy Coates, head coach of the Northeastern swimming and diving team, has announced the initial members of the team’s incoming class for the 2020-2021 season on Tuesday. This year’s class hails from four states and two countries, with all six incoming Huskies projected to score in at least two events at the Colonial Athletic Association’s (CAA) Championship.

“We are so excited to introduce these outstanding young women as the newest members of our family,” said Coates.  “Each of them personifies both athletic and academic excellence, and we cannot wait to welcome them to campus next fall.”

Headlining the class is Jamie Koo, an elite flyer from Singapore.  Koo’s best converted time in the 100 fly (54.23) would have placed second at the 2018 CAA championship. She also projects to score in both sprint free events and will make an immediate impact on the team’s relays, with converted times of 23.32 and 51.79 in the 50 and 100 free, respectively.

Joining her will be Grace Miller of Morristown, N.J. Miller is a versatile freestyler who has scoring times in the CAA in nearly every freestyle event. Her 200 free (1:50.37) would have placed seventh last year, and her 100 (51.84), 500 (4:56.09) and 1650 (17:14.22) all would have been in the top-16.  Miller also excels in the 400 IM, coming in with a time of 4:26.28 that would have placed sixth in 2019.

Coco Fraser of Mountain Lakes, N.J. likewise enters the program as a projected A-finalist in two events.  Her 200 breast (2:19.42) would have been seventh at last year’s CAA championship, and her 400 IM (4:27.29) would have been eighth.  In addition, she brings in scoring times in both the 100 breast (1:04.71) and 200 IM (2:06.03).

Sofia Long, a fly specialist from Williamsburg, Va. will also look to make an immediate impact for the Huskies.  Long’s personal bests in the 100 (55.55) and 200 (2:04.28) fly place her just outside the A final at CAA’s.

Jane Thompson, from Corte Madera, Calif., joins the Huskies as a backstroke specialist.  Her top times of 57.01 and 2:03.90 in the 100 and 200 back, respectively, would have placed in the top-16 in both events at the CAA championships.

Diver Lizzie Meschisen joins the program from nearby Northborough, Mass., where she holds the Algonquin Regional High School record on the 1-meter with a score of 303.75. She placed first at her Sectional meet and third in the Massachusetts state competition her junior year. Her precision and strength on both the 1- and 3-meter boards will have her in the running for top-eight in the conference.
