GREELEY, Colo. – A day after just falling to Wyoming, UNC swimming and diving responded with a strong performance against Colorado School of Mines, winning 166-88. UNC took first place in but three of the 16 events in the dominant win.

It was a complete team effort on Friday with eight different Bears claiming first place in a race, and two claimed multiple top finishes. Those two were Katie Stover in the 1000 and 500 free and Maria Heymans in the 100 and 200 breast. Once again, Stover blew away the competition winning both races by over 10 seconds. Heymans also claimed both races against Wyoming on Thursday, improving on both times finishing the 100 in 1:05.12 and 200 in 2:23.91.

Northern Colorado also won the 50, 100, 200 freestyle, 100 and 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Emily Hamel, Petra Kis and Rose Saya won the freestyle races, respectively. Kis and Saya switched winning the 100 and 200 from the previous day while Hamel earned her first win of the year.

The winners of the 100 and 200 were Madelyn Moore and Leilani Hererra. Moore won both events against Wyoming. Morgan King was Northern Colorado’s first place finisher in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 58.31 seconds to beat out teammate Moore by .14 seconds.

Ebeling’s Thoughts
I’m proud of our girls for stepping up, racing hard, and supporting one another for the second day in a row. We were able to swim some different events today which really highlighted some of the technical things we need to work on moving forward. I’m looking forward to implementing some of these things into our training to see some more improvements in our future competitions.

What’s Ahead?
The Bears are now off until October 6 when they will face Seattle on the road for their first WAC meet of the year. UNC and SU will start their competition at 11 am MT.

April Wood highlighted Mines’ individual efforts with a 2:15.75 win in the 200-fly and a 4:48.08 first-place time in the 400-IM. Mia Wood took second in the 200-free at 1:56.09, as did Sam Henney in the 200-back (2:17.54), while Kailey Said led the distance freestylers with a third-place 11:30.97 in the 1,000-free, and Mia Wood was third in the 500-free with a 5:18.61 time.
