GREELEY, Colo. – You couldn’t have scripted senior day any better for the Northern Colorado Swim and Dive program.

The Bears were hot off the blocks, winning five of the first six races, propelling UNC to a big lead early and they never looked back.

Making a habit out of touching the wall first, Anna Austin continued her dominance in the long-distance races her times of 10:36:16 in the 1,000 free and 5:10.01 in the 500 free gave the junior another pair of wins in long-distance events. Austin also picked up a win in the 200 Fly with a 2:07.92.

Freshman Saana Liikonen swam the anchor leg in the winning 200 Medley Relay and found herself in the winner’s circle in the 200 Free (1:55.33).

After a WAC Swimmer of the Week performance just 14 days ago, Madelyn Moore continues to pick up steam as the Bears gear up for the conference championships. The Bermuda native swept the sprints and closed out the winning 400 Free Relay.

In only her second meet in the Blue and Gold Chelaine van de Westhuizen impressed with a second-place finish in the 200 Breast (2:24.39) and 100 Breast (1:06.73).

Fellow freshman Katelyn Bergin tallied wins in the 100 Fly (58.32) and 100 Back (58.06).

Closing out their last competition in Butler Hancock Pool, both Petra Kis and Stephanie Tymoszuk recorded noteworthy performances.

Kis took home the 200 IM while Tymoszuk guided home the UNC’s second 400 Yard Free Relay to close out the night.

DECK TALK
Lisa Ebeling, Head Coach
“I thought the meet went really well. We fought hard and the girls were tough. We knew we were going to have to win the close races if we wanted to win today. They did a great job of getting their hand on the wall and closing hard, even when they were tired. I honoring our seniors definitely helped with that.

“Both of our seniors have been incredible leaders on this team. Petra [Kis] and Stephanie [Tymoszuk] mean so much to these girls and I think that gave them a little extra motivation when the team needed it most.”

WHAT’S AHEAD
Northern Colorado will hit the road to face rival Colorado State in Fort Collins on February 5. The meet is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start time.
