The University of Northern Iowa women’s swimming and diving team won 12 of 16 events against South Dakota, with a final score of 178-122.
The Panthers team of Katie Taylor, Moriah Ross, Crystal Florman and Molly Lembezeder swam to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, timing in at one minute, fifty-seven seconds and 22 hundredths.
Taylor broke the South Dakota pool record in the 200 backstroke, swimming in at 2:14.87. Taylor edged out Sabrina Sabadeanu of South Dakota in the 100 backstroke, timing in at 1:02.68. Taylor edged out Sabadeanu in the 200 IM, swimming in at 2:20.59.
Kylie Engstrom was a full seven seconds ahead of her opponent in the 800 freestyle, timing in at 9:22.58.
Lembezeder and Florman took first and second in the 50 freestyle. Lembezeder swam a 27.05, with Florman timing in at 27.28.
Lembezeder nabbed another first-place finish in the 100 freestyle, timing in at 59.11.
Ross would take first-place in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 1:12.82. Ross nabbed a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, timing in at 2:38.26.
Florman timed in at 1:05 even for a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly.
Engstrom, Jordan McCullough and Anika Lillegard-Bouton went 1-2-3 in the 400 freestyle. Engstrom led with a time of 4:36.53, McCullough followed at 4:39.94. Lillegard-Bouton rounded the Panthers out at 4:40.
The team of Florman, Ross, Knowles, and Lembezeder rounded out the Panthers tonight in the 200 freestyle relay, timing in at 1:49.75 for first-place.
Lillegard-Bouton and Maya Appleton took third and fourth places in the 200 freestyle. Lillegard-Bouton swam to a time of 2:13.16 and Appleton followed at 2:13.31.
Emma Baertlein and Alex Binkley took fourth and fifth in the 200 butterfly. Baertlein timed in at 2:38.81. Binkley followed a second later at 2:39.76.
Rachel Siebenaller nabbed a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle, swimming a 1:01.43.
Madison Rinaldi swam into third-place in the 200 backstroke, timing in at 2:24.26.
Olivia Knowles timed in at 2:50.36 for a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.
Izzy Bunchek nabbed a second place finish in the 1-meter diving, scoring a 219.55. Jayden Lovellscored a 203.85 for fourth place. In the 3-meter diving well, Hannah Brummel and Bunchek took third and fourth place. Brummel had a dive score of 193.15, with Bunchek diving a 188.15.
The Panthers meet against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits that was scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. The Stanley J. Marshall Pool on the Brookings, S.D., campus suffered an equipment failure on Thursday. The Panthers and Jackrabbits will attempt to reschedule the meet.
