Northern Kentucky Clippers’ Austin Haney Verbally Commits to Kentucky Wildcats

Austin Haney of the Northern Kentucky Clippers has verbally committed to swim for the Kentucky Wildcats. Next fall, he will join class of 2014 commits, and current freshmen, Zach Smith and Ann Davies as Clippers swimmers on the Kentucky swim team.

Haney is a versatile swimmer who to this point in his career has been a little better in long course than in short course. His best times in yards are:

  • 50 free – 21.88
  • 100 free – 47.74
  • 200 free – 1:40.70
  • 200 back – 1:56.70
  • 100 breast – 58.21
  • 200 breast – 2:07.07
  • 200 fly – 1:57.46
  • 200 IM – 1:54.26
  • 400 IM – 3:59.59

Haney’s decision to wait until after the early signing period to make his decision was a good one. So far as a senior, he’s gone best times in the 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyles with the Kentucky High School State Championship meet still to come within the next month.

Haney can expect to be competitive in Kentucky’s breaststroke and IM groups as a freshman, and should immediately improve the team’s 800 free relay. He’s due for a big explosion in the sprint freestyles as well – his 100 yard time, for example, has already been faster this season than his previous best three times.
