OXFORD, Ohio —The Miami University swimming and diving team hosted Northwestern University, where both the men’s and women’s teams fell in competition on Saturday, Oct. 14. The men’s team fell 204-96, while the women’s team lost 161.5-137.5.
How It Happened:
- The meet opened with the 400 medley relay, where the women’s A relay took first and the men’s A relay finished in second place. Madeline Padavic, Kaylin Herbet, Erin Szczupakiewicz and Nicole Maier produced a time of 3:39.81 for the women, while the men’s team of Owen Blazer, Adrian Dulay, Henju Duvenhage and Ian Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis totaled a time of 3:16.62.
- For the women’s 1000 freestyle, Casey Stephens had the top finish for Miami with a time of 10:24.76. For the men’s team, Nick Barrows placed third with a time of 9:52.07, with Tommy Frye following closely behind in fourth (9:56.09).
- Maier took first place in the women’s 200 freestyle and edged second place by .60 seconds (1:46.38). Uros Djokovic finished third in the men’s 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.36.
- In the women’s 100 backstroke, Padavic took first place with a time of 54.15. As for the men, Blazer was the top finisher as he came in fourth place (49.63).
- For the men’s 100 breaststroke, Duvenhage finished in second place (53.96). As for the women, Herbet took second (1:03.12) and Sara Lahrach-Sanchez finished in third (1:03.36).
- In a thrilling event, Szczupakiewicz edged past second place by .01 in the 200 Butterfly to take first place (2:02.96). Allen Cotton finished in second place for the men (1:49.24)
- The 50 freestyle had first place finishes from both men’s and women’s teams. Honor Brodie-Foy earned a time of 23.57 for the women, while Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis turned in a time of 20.64, followed by Gabriel Perseguin-Dias in second (20.74).
- Herbet and Julia Waechter finished second and third respectively in the women’s 100 freestyle, with Herbet picking up a time of 50.84 and Waechter earning a time of 51.34. For the men’s team, Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis finished first with a time of 47.79.
- In the 200 Backstroke both the men’s and women’s highest finisher took fourth place. Ella Ziegert recorded a time of 2:01.67 and Zach Bann finished in 1:50.37.
- The women’s 200 breaststroke had Caitlyn Groff finishing third with a time of 2:23.00. Dulay finished fourth for the men’s team with a time of 2:04.83.
- Greta Kolbeck came in second for the women’s team in the 500 freestyle (4:57.15), and just behind her in third place was Stephens picking up a time of 5:05.18. For the men’s team, Bryce Menchlofer took second place with a time of 4:33.33.
- In the men’s 100 Butterfly, Miami took both first and second place. Duvenhage led the pack (47.72) and Perseguin-Dias closed in just behind him (48.32). For the women’s team, Szczupakiewicz came in second place with a time of 55.81.
- Maier placed first in the women’s 400 IM with a time of 4:14.92. For the men’s event, Cotton earned the highest Miami placement, landing in fourth (3:59.03)
- Swimming events concluded with the 200 freestyle relay. The men’s A relay team of Rodrigues-Kmiliauskis, Perseguin-Dias, Duvenhage and Herczeg placed second with a combined time of 1:22.00. The women’s A relay team placed second, with Natalie Gilson, Brodie-Foy, Herbet and Maier picking up a combined time of 1:32.82.
- For diving events, Jackson Miller took third in both the 1 meter dive (291.30) and 3 meter dive (299.33). In the women’s events, Sydney Rice took second in both the 1 meter dive (279.15) and 3 meter dive (291.38).

Miami’s women’s team returns to action at Eastern Michigan University on Saturday, Oct. 28 and host Buffalo on Saturday, Nov. 11. The men’s team will get their next opportunity in the Miami Invitational co-ed meet which begins on Thursday, Nov. 30.
