Nortwestern Men & Women Come Away With Dominant Wins In Last Home Meet of the Year

The Wildcats played host to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers on senior night and the last home meet of the season for Northwestern on Friday. Both the men’s and women’s teams from Northwestern came away with victories in all of the swimming events contested as the women won 153-81 while the men won 137-98.

On the women’s side, double event winners for the Wildcats included sophomore Lacey Locke (200 IM, 2:03.32/200 Back, 2:01.73) and sophomore Ellen Stello (200 Fly, 2:00.87/500 free, 4:53.79). Other event winners included sophomore Annika Winsnes (100 fre, 50.75), freshman Mary Warren (50 free/23.22), junior Ellen Anderson (1000 free 10:15.05), sophomore Lauren Abruzzo (200 free, 1:53.25), and junior Julianne Kurke (200 breast, 2:18.98, exhibitioned).

Impressively, the Wildcats also finished the day with a pool record in the 200 freestyle relay as Warren (22.87), freshman Anna Keane (22.94),  junior Julia Pratt (22.74), and Winsnes (22.52) combined to set a new pool record at 1:31.07. This chopped off six tenths from the previous record of 1:31.67 set by the University of Missouri Tigers back in 2012.

The Panthers got their lone victories from junior diver Rachel Margis, who won both diving events with scores of 239.70 and 270.15 on 1 meter and 3 meter respectively.

The men’s meet saw a similarly dominant performance from the Wildcats as they put their depth on display to come away with victories in every event. Freshman Almog Olshtein (50 free, 20.52/100 free, 45.82) was the only double event winner for Northwestern with other victories coming from sophomore Charlie Cole (1000 free, 9:28.25), junior Jordan Wilimovsky (200 free, 1:41.65), junior Grant Halsall (200 IM, 1:53.58), sophomore Andrew Jovanovic (200 fly, 1:55.06), senior Mark Ferguson (200 back, 1:51.77), sophomore Jonathan Lieberman (500 free, 4:33.78, exhibitioned), and junior Van Donkersgoed (200 breast, 2:05.85).

The Wildcats swept both relays as well with wins in the 400 medley relay (3:25.o1) and the 200 free relay (1:23.30, exhibitioned). Additionally, sophomore Andrew Cramer won both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events with scores of  314.78 and 358.80 respectively.

With the wins, the Northwestern women improve to 6-4 on the season while the men improve to 7-3.
