Norway names just three swimmers to World Champs roster

Norway has named just 3 swimmers to its roster for the FINA World Championships which take place over the next few weeks in Kazan, Russia.

Though it’s a small roster, it’s a strong one, as all three are national record-holders in the long course meters format.

Henrik Christiansen will have the busiest schedule of the bunch. The 18-year-old distance man will take on every single freestyle event from 200 meters upwards (the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free and 1500 free), plus the 400 IM.

Christiansen set the Norwegian national record in the 400 free at last summer’s European Junior Championships, going 3:49.60. He’s fast becoming one of the most exciting young swimmers in Norwegian history – most recently, he tore up the national record book at the Norwegian Short Course Championships, taking down 4 different records.

Christiansen was also a bronze medalist at last summer’s Youth  Olympic Games.

Backstroker Lavrans Solli brings a bit more international experience to the table. Solli is a 2012 Olympian, and has competed for Norway at World Championships past, even winning a bronze medal in a mixed relay at the 2012 Short Course Worlds.

Solli will swim the 50, 100 and 200 backstrokes in Kazan. He owns national records in the two shorter distances.

The lone female entrant is Cecilie Johannessen. The Norwegian record-holder in the 200 and 200 frees, Johannessen will swim the 50, 100 and 200 in Kazan. She’s the first Norwegian swimmer ever under 56 in the 100 free, having gone 55.51 at last summer’s European Championships.
