Norway Sending 6 to 2014 European Championships

Norway will send 6 swimmers and 4 coaches to the 2014 European Championships in Berlin, Germany from August 18th-24th.

The roster of athletes will include two women (Cecilie Waage Johannessen and Stina Colleou), while the men’s roster will be four strong (Lavran SolliSverre NaessMarius Solaat Roedland, and Sindri Thor Jakobsson).

Norway will be without both of the swimmers who won medals at the 2012 European Championships, including breaststroker Sara Nordenstam (gold – 200 breaststroke) and butterflier Ingvild Snildal (bronze – 50 fly, gold – 100 fly).

With that, the power shifts to the men’s roster,

The biggest remaining name on the roster, who are sending four swimmers to make relays. Specifically, Solli is the National Record holder in the 50 backstroke (25.15) and 100 backstroke (54.77). That 100 time for the 22-year old was set earlier this year, and puts him within range of making a final with a good taper.

The women’s team, though they won’t swim relays, has two impressive swimmers. Johannessen is a very food sprinter with long course bests of 25.49 and 55.62 in the 50 and 100 meter freestyles, while Colleou, who trains in the United States at the University of Utah, swam lifetime bests of 1:11.25 and 2:30.69 in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes at the Mesa Grand Prix in April.
