Notre Dame All-American Zach Yeadon Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

All-American distance swimmer Zach Yeadon has entered the NCAA transfer portal after three seasons with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Yeadon has been a breakout star at the college level. He had a huge rise over his senior year of high school, then surged to 4th place in the mile at NCAAs his freshman season. He scored at NCAAs in the 500 free and 1650 free in both 2018 and 2019, and came into 2020 NCAAs seeded 3rd in the 500 free and 2nd in the 1650 free before that meet was canceled in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yeadon’s Top Times

  • 1650y free: 14:27.93
  • 1000y free: 8:47.33
  • 500y free: 4:10.39
  • 200y free: 1:34.39

When Yeadon verbally committed to Notre Dame as a high school junior, he was 1:40/4:23/9:33/15:09. As a senior in high school, he’d dropped to 1:37/4:19/9:02/14:49, and as a freshman for Notre Dame, he went 1:36/4:12/8:51/14:34.

Yeadon is originally from San Antonio, Texas and swam for Alamo Area Aquatic Association and Ronald Reagan High School. He’ll be a high-impact addition for whichever program he transfers to, with the potential to score 30+ NCAA points in his senior year.

In the summer of 2018, he qualified for the U.S. World University Games roster in the 400-meter free, and won a gold medal as a prelims swimmer in the 4×200 free relay.

Would Zach enter the transfer portal if he was going to change schools for graduate studies? If he sits out this year to focus on Trials, he could be looking at his next training location based a graduate program.

So…did Zach Yeadon himself tell you he entered the portal?

Or did SwimSwam’s ultra secret source provide this information?…

Who knows? Maybe he just wants to be close to home with Rona.

I have never been a huge fan of Notre Dame but clear Zach has had a tremendous career at ND and has had stunning improvement. Is there no loyalty? Maybe Notre Dame isn’t providing him with an academic challenge.

You can’t really make a judgment about loyalty without knowing his personal situation.

ND academic challenge one of the nations best

Their academics far outpace their swimming

Not likely the reason for transfer

Notre Dame has outstanding academics. I threw in that academic sentence because I have trouble seeing Zach leaving ND because his swimming career at ND has been outstanding.

I’d bet on Texas, maybe Florida or Michigan
