CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host Notre Dame in a two-day meet starting Friday (Jan. 8) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville.
The action begins Friday with all of the diving events at 2 p.m. and swimming at 5 p.m. The competition continues with swimming at noon on Saturday (Jan. 9). The Cavaliers’ senior class will be honored in a brief ceremony on Saturday at 11:40 a.m.
Admission to Virginia swimming and diving meets is free to the public. Public parking is available at Slaughter Recreation Center and the parking lot closest to the West Gate at Scott Stadium on a first-come, first-served basis.

Last time out, the No. 1 Cavalier women (3-0) won the Georgia Fall Invitational in December, while the No. 21 Virginia men (1-2) finished fourth. The Cavalier women have the fastest times in the country in eight events, including junior Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 500 free, 1,000 free and 1,650 free and senior Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) in the 100 back and 200 back. UVA also has the top times in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. On the men’s side, senior Yannick Kaeser (Mumpf, Switzerland) is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the 200 breast and seventh in the 100 breast.
The Fighting Irish women placed second at the Boilermaker Invitational in November and are 1-5 on the season. Notre Dame’s men’s team is 2-1 on the season and finished third at the Boilermaker Invitational.
The Cavaliers return to action next weekend (Jan. 15-16) in Christiansburg, Va., when they will face Virginia Tech and Towson.
