Estelle Bauer of Mt. Pleasant, SC has announced her decision to further her academic and athletic career at Nova Southeastern University beginning in the 2021-2022 season. She is a year-round swimmer at South Carolina Swim Club and she is a senior at Wando High School.
“I’m so excited to announce that I’ve decided to continue my athletic and academic career at Nova Southeastern University! Thank you to my parents, coaches and teammates who have helped me along the way. Go sharks!!! 🦈 💙 ”
In October Bauer competed at her final high school meet, contributing to Wando High School’s South Carolina HS 5A Girls Championships title. She swam the 200 and 500 free and the 400 free relay. Her 200 free time of 1:56.22 placed her 5th overall, while her 500 free time of 5:07.12 earned her the silver medal. She led Wando’s 400 free relay off and was followed by Sophia Frece, Mary Shaw, and Ellis Pitts for another silver medal performance.
Bauer won the 500 free at the 2019 state meet and she finished 6th in the 200 free.
In February, she competed at the South Carolina Senior State Championships, taking home a bronze medal for her 1000 free. She placed 4th in the 1650, 5th in the 500 free, 14th in the 200 free, and 21st in the 100 breast. She also swam the 100 free, 200 breast, and 400 IM. She went personal best times in the 1000 and 1650 free and the 400 IM.
Top SCY Times:
- 200 free – 1:55.82
- 500 free – 5:03.40
- 1000 free – 10:14.09
- 1650 free – 17:11.43
Nova Southeastern won the 2020 Sunshine State Conference title, outscoring the University of Tampa by 24 points. Bauer’s top times would have placed her within the top 8 in the 1000 and 1650 free, while she would have earned a spot in the B-final of the 500 free. Last season, she would have been Nova Southeastern’s second-fastest 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle behind 3-time 2020 conference champion Emma Sundstedt. The Swedish national is the team record-holder in all three distance events and the 200 free.
