Richmond, Virginia-native Luke Martin has committed to swim for University of Connecticut beginning in the 2015-16 season. Martin trains with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and competes for Deep Run High School.
“I chose UCONN because the fit felt perfect. The coaches, team, and University environment are fantastic. The coaches are very good at pushing their swimmers to succeed in a positive way. Also, the team was very welcoming and an all-round great group of people. I feel that UCONN provides the atmosphere I am looking for and is a place where I can see myself succeeding at the next level.”
While predominately a sprint freestyler, Martin also excels in the fly and IM. At the Virginia Swimming Short Course Senior Championships last March, Martin finaled in 50/100/200 free, 100 back, and 100 fly, and was a member of NOVA’s meet record-breaking 400 free relay. In long course season, Martin was a finalist in several events at NCSA Summer Swimming Championships and anchored NOVA’s first-place 400 medley relay.
His best times include:
SCY | LCM |
50y free: 20.99 | 50m free: 24.19 |
100y free: 46.48 | 100m free: 53.85 |
200y free: 1:42.49 | 200m free: 1:59.91 |
50y fly: 23.43 | 50m fly: 26.41 |
100y fly: 51.62 | 100m fly: 58.12 |
200y IM: 1:55.87 | 200m IM: 2:16.14 |
In addition to what he’ll bring to UConn’s relays, Martin should be an immediate-impact player individually. His best 50, 100, and 200 free times, as well as his 200 IM, would have scored in consolation finals at 2014 AAC Championships.
Great article! We can’t wait to watch him swim for UNCONN! Go Huskies!!
