Iowa Flyers Swim Club breaststroker Emma Hruby has pledged her commitment to the Northwestern Wildcats for next season.

I loved everything about Northwestern. Not only is the campus beautiful but I felt like I fit in right away with the team and I absolutely loved the coaching staff. I’m excited to get on campus next fall and see what the next four years are going to bring!

Hruby’s Top Times

  • 100 breast – 1:05.37
  • 200 breast – 2:18.07
  • 400 IM – 4:29.63

Hruby has made some pretty insane improvements in one year’s time in her best events– she was barely under 1:10 and 2:30 in the breaststrokes in late winter of 2014, and his since gotten down to her current best’s just one season later. She also knocked off almost 9 seconds in her 400 IM in a year’s time.

Northwestern had a sole conference finalist in either breaststroke events last year, Julianne Kurke, who finished 23rd in the 100 and 24th in the 200 at Big Tens. She returns this season for her senior year, but will be gone before Hruby gets to Evanston.

Nevertheless, the Wildcats have reloaded in a big way with current freshmen Lindsay Adamski and Peyton Greenberg. Adamski is more of a sprinter at 1:01.9/2:16.7 in the breaststroke, while Greenberg has more endurance at 1:03.0/2:14.0.

The fast-improving Hruby will add more depth to a fierce young breaststroke group for Northwestern, who has performed well this season under new head coach Abby Steketee.

This marks Northwestern’s first female commit for their incoming freshman class.
