The New York University women’s swimming & diving team returned to the pool for the first time in 2020 and defeated NCAA Division I Wagner College at the Palladium Athletic Facility on Saturday, January 11.

The Violets (2-1) totaled 207 points, while the Seahawks (6-2) finished with 93.

NYU’s Sydney Catron (Alexandria, VA/Bishop O’Connell)Honore Collins (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township)Erica Yuen (Cambridge, MA/Buckingham Browne & Nichols School), and Jessica Flynn (Charlotte, NC /Charlotte Latin School) won the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:55.85.

Rachel Reistroffer (Spartanburg, SC/Dorman) claimed victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:36.40, while Ashley Brodnick (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road) placed second (10:37.75).

Collins also won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.95) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.90) races. Catron took home first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.99

Mari Yasumi (Honolulu, HI/Henry J. Kaiser) was yet another victorious Violet, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.19) and the 200-yard IM (2:10.73).

“I’m pretty pleased with how we swam today,” said Head Coach Trevor Miele. “Coming off a training trip, the women really exceeded our expectations.”

In the diving portion, Carmen White (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) won both the three-meter (274 pts) and one-meter (285.90) events.

“Today was a great Senior Day for Carmen,” explained Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. “She was able to perform at a high level on both boards to earn her wins today.”

Prior to the meet, NYU celebrated Senior Day in honor of its five graduating student-athletes: Hannah Bub (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands Christian Academy), Collins, Becky Flaherty (Carmel, IN/Carmel)Jaime Robinson (Cheshire, CT/Sacred Heart Academy), and White.

NYU returns to action on Saturday, January 18, when the teams travels to West Chester, PA, to face West Chester University.

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College swimming and diving team dropped a 207-93 decision at NYU on Saturday, before losing a tightly contested 156-144 meet against Rhode Island at the Spiro Sports Center on Sunday.

On Sunday, Wagner won the 400 Free Relay, as senior Makenna Depuydt, junior Madeleine Delore, sophomore Judith Desforges, and graduate student Dorian McMenemy finished in 3:37.65.

Depuydt and sophomore Ellie Eastwood dominated the competition, earning three individual victories each. Depuydt won the 200 Free (1:55.73), 100 Free (53.17), and 50 Free (24.63), ahead of McMenemy (25.05) and Desforges (25.59).

Eastwood took first place in the 100 Breast (1:08.13), while touching first in the 200 IM (2:11.55) ahead of freshman Maile Mora (2:12.30), and also earning a first-place finish in the 200 Breast (2:26.68) ahead of freshman Frederikke Mertins (2:27.57).

Freshman Raquel Reyes took second in the 1000 Free (1:51.72) and 200 Fly (2:11.27) while Mora added a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:12.30)

On Saturday against NYU, Depuydt also won the 50 Free in 24.62, while Reyes took first in the 200 Fly (2:10.24).

The 200 Free Relay, consisting of Depuydt, Desforges, McMenemy, and Muro touched first in 1:38.04, while Mertins took first in the 200 Breast (2:26.69).

Next up, the Seahawks will host LIU for their senior meet on January 25 at 1:00 PM at the Spiro Sports Center.
