ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Swim and Dive teams both earned victories against Miami of Ohio in their final home meet of 2021. The men won 192.5-107.5 while the women won 167-132.
Susan LaGrand took first in three events, and second in the 200 IM (2:06.36). Her two solo first place finishes came in the 100 (55.60) and 200 (1:59.85) backstroke, and she took first as part of the 200 medley relay team of Taylor Bailey, Mia Keranen and Jordyn Shipps, with a 1:42.63 time.
Bailey, in addition to the victory in the 200 medley relay, finished first in both the 100 (1:04.19) and 200 (2:17.93) breaststroke.
Shipps took first place in both the 100 freestyle (51.28) and 100 butterfly (55.52) races. Shipps also took second in the 200 freestyle with a 1:52.32 time.
Elleana Chalifoux, Katelynn Cummings and Alyssa Ruhf took first through third respectively in the three meter dive. Chalifoux also took first in the one meter dive, sweeping both diving events.
Overall, the women’s swim and dive team took 11/16 first place finishes.
The men’s swim and dive team had an impressive showing, placing first in 14 of 16 events.
Marko Khotynetskyi took home four first place finishes, with two solo victories. His two solo first place finishes were in the 100 (48.61) and 200 (1:51.68) backstroke races.
The relay team of Khotynetskyi, Ryan Geheb, Mack Flowers and Christian Bart placed first in the 200 medley relay with a 1:29.71 time. Khotynetskyi and Bart took home another first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, as part of the team which included Rudy Aguilar-Fernandez and Jack Wike. Their winning time was 3:00.81.
Aguilar-Fernandez added a first place victory in the 500 freestyle with a 4:35.96 time. His 1:38.99 time also was best in the 200 freestyle, marking three first-place finishes on the day.
Bart had two first place finishes of his own as well in the 100 breaststroke (55.62) and 100 freestyle (45.37) races.
Scott Scrivano placed first in both diving events. He earned a 301.65 score in the three-meter dive and a 265.73 score in the one-meter dive.
Andrew Bernsdorf won the 200 IM with a 1:53.20 time. He also placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:07.71 time.
Both men’s and women’s swim and dive has a few weeks off before their final meet of the season against Akron in the Zippy Invite, which runs from Dec. 3-5.

The Miami University swimming and diving teams came up short in their visit to Oakland University on Saturday, Nov. 13. The women’s team lost 167-132, while the men’s team fell 192.5-107.5.
How It Happened:
- Miami swimmers placed first in six events across both teams, with the women’s A relay team of Taylor Connors, Madeline Padavic, Honor Brodie-Foy and Nicole Maier also winning the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:27.20.
- A swimmer from the RedHawks placed second in 13 of the remaining individual events, with many times within a second of the first place finishers. These include Natalie Stump in the 1000 freestyle (10:26.50), Padavic in the 100 backstroke (55.67), Ryan Sego in the 200 butterfly (1:53.21), Connors in the 50 freestyle (23.99) and the 100 freestyle (52.25), Jack Herczeg in the 100 freestyle (46.10) and Angelina Cakuls in the 200 backstroke (2:00.30).
- Both the Miami women’s and men’s A relay teams placed second overall in the 200 medley relay; the women’s team of Padavic, Sara Lahrach-Sanchez, Emily O’Connell and Connors finished with a time of 1:43.34 while the men’s team of Owen Blazer, Adrian Dulay, Sego and Nic Wamsley earned a time of 1:31.85.
- Maier earned first in all three of her individual events, topping the podium in the 200 freestyle (1:49.96), the 500 freestyle (4:56.50) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.65).
- The top three spots in the 50 freestyle were dominated by Miami swimmers. Ben Chatwin placed first (20.74) with Pedro Gueiros and Wamsley placing second and third.
- Other swimmers earning individual first place finishes included Erin Szczupakiewicz in the 200 butterfly (2:06.11) and Dulay in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.32).
- Vivian Niekamp placed second in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 246.23 while Madeline Lutzko placed third. Karsten Dixon landed in third in the same event for the men with a score of 237.15, also placing third in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 253.95.

The Miami swimming and diving teams return home for the Miami Invitational beginning Thursday, Dec. 2 and running through Saturday, Dec. 4. Start times will be released within the coming weeks.
