Oakland Hires Stacy Busack as Assistant Swim Coach

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University head swimming and diving coach Pete Hovland announced Thursday the addition of Stacy Busack to his coaching staff. Busack joins the staff after spending the past four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

“I am pleased and excited to announce the addition of Stacy Busack to our staff,” said Hovland. “When calling around to various colleagues and coaches from some of the top programs in the country, Stacy’s name surfaced multiple times. Stacy is as excited about becoming a Golden Grizzly as we were about her.”

“Her experience and presence, both as a Big Ten champion and as a coach from two of the top conferences in the country, will be a tremendous asset to me and the rest of our staff,” said Hovland. “The experiences she brings with her as an elite athlete will also be the perfect example for our student-athletes as we continue to grow.”

While at Pittsburgh, Busack’s primary duties included working with the sprinters and assisting in recruiting for the women’s squad. Under Busack’s guidance, 25 women set school records during her time with the Panthers.

Prior to Pittsburgh, Busack spent four years as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater Minnesota. A 13-time All-American, Hall of Famer at the University of Minnesota, and Olympic Trial participant, Busack was one of the top freestyle swimmers in the country during her time as a Gopher from 2005-09. She set the Big Ten record in the 100-yard freestyle during her senior campaign in 2009, a record that held for five years.

Busack led the Gophers to the 2008 Big Ten team championship title and was an NCAA participant all four years of her career. She was a four-time Big Ten champion and collected 14 separate records at Minnesota. In the classroom, she was an Academic All-American and a three time Big Ten All-Academic performer.
