Oakland Women Cap Successful Weekend With 173-125 Victory Over EMU

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland Women’s Swim and Dive team capped off the weekend in Eastern Michigan with a win as the team tallied 173 points for the afternoon. 

The Golden Grizzlies just about split the winnings with the Eagles after securing 9 of 15 event titles contributing to their total tally of 173.

The medley relay team came firing out of the gate with a 1:45.80 finishing time behind stellar performances by Susan LaGrandTaylor BaileySophia Davis, and Ronja Riihinen.   

Following her accomplishment from the relay, LaGrand went on to dominate the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.62, and additionally took the gold in the 200-yard series with a time of 2:03.71 for the Grand Rapids native. 

Bailey clinched the 100-yard breaststroke as she touched the wall at 1:04.72, she stayed dialed in to claim the 200-yard event with a time of 2:19.02, respectively.

Jordyn Shipps got a piece of the action with her impressive time in the 200-yard butterfly swimming in at 2:04.97. And continuing the dual length event winning pattern of her teammates, she successfully claimed the 100-yard butterfly with her 56.51 time in the water.

Notably, Elleana Chalifoux dove for the Golden Grizzlies this weekend claiming an astounding first-place finish in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events with her remarkable performances. She tallied a 269.63 in the one-meter competition and a 284.25 in the three-meter event to contribute to Oakland’s impressive score for the night. 

And to close out the meet the A relay team came back together to rack their last title of the night in the 400-yard freestyle relay finishing in a time of 3:30.26 to then leave their mark in Ypsilanti for the weekend.

SALINE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive program dropped its final dual meet of the fall slate, falling to Oakland University 173-125 Saturday afternoon at Saline High School.

The Eagles (1-3, 1-1 MAC) won six events in the dual meet, including a pair of victories from senior Carlin Hudson (Chattanooga, Tenn.- Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences) and freshman Alexandra Kudo (Guelph, Ontario-John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute), respectively. Hudson took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle (51.42) and in the 200-yard IM (2:05.80), while Kudo won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.02) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.82).

On the diving boards, Savannah Fisk (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) earned career marks in both the 1-meter (258.98) and the 3-meter (231.30). The junior’s score in the 1-meter was good for second while three other Eagles rounded out the top-five spots (Veltigian – third, Hughes – fourth, Knapp – fifth).

Up Next
The Eagles will have a two-and-a-half-week break from competition before competing in the Denison Invitational, Dec. 1-3, in Granville, Ohio.
