ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland Women’s Swim and Dive team wrapped up their competition this evening with a final score of Oakland 192, Bowling Green 108 resulting in a first place finish for the Golden Grizzlies.
The team competed in a total of 16 events tonight, for which 13 of them resulted in first-place finishes.
The girls kicked it off with the 200-yard medley relay with an exciting first-place finish with Susan LaGrand, Sohvi Neonen, Mia Keranan, and closing it out was Jordyn Shipps with a time of (1:44.25).
Rounding out the 1000-yard freestyle, Lola Laenen claimed an incredible second place finish with a new best time of (10:40.65), while Mia Englender was right behind her at (10:50.70). Notably, Englender would later swim into the second place spot in the 500-yard free with a time of (5:16.70).
Shipps claimed another victory in the 200-yard freestyle swimming in at a time of (1:53.68) beside teammate Sam Thiessen with a close second place finish at a time of (1:54.81). Additionally Shipps, also roped in the win for the 100-yard butterfly with a time of (55.78).
Alyssia Betancourt claimed the second place slot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of (59.82). Betancourt then returned to take the first place spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of (54.73).
Taylor Bailey touched first with a speedy time of (1:03.96) to secure the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke. Not only this, but she also claimed the first place spot in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of (2:17.47).
Susan LaGrand swam in the 200-yard butterfly and responded with a first place finish with a time of (2:05.13). She them came back to claim the title for the 100-yard free with a time of (51.85), and made another notable finish in the 400-yard IM with a first place time of (4:28.46).
Ronja Riihinen made her mark and took the first place title in the 50-yard free with a time of (24.21).
Kiera Brough made an exciting first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of (2:05.80), alongside Angelina Baker with a second place finish at a time of (2:06.76).
For diving, Oakland’s Ellie Chalifoux swept the women’s one meter contest with a person best final score of (295.28) coming out on top. Notably Alyssa Ruhf came in third with a score of (252.83), and Victoria Sanders came in fifth with a final score of (242.18).
To finish off the night the women competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay and took the first place spot with Oakland’s A relay team recording a remarkable time of (3:30.57).
The full Golden Grizzlies swim team will be back in action tomorrow, January 21 at Matthaei Natatorium to take on Wayne State at 1:00 pm.
