The Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) is thrilled to announce that on Sunday, May 19th, during the 2024 Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Swimming Trials, Katie Cosgriffe was nominated to Team Canada for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. She becomes the eighth athlete from OAK to achieve the remarkable feat of representing Canada at an Olympic or Paralympic Games, showcasing the club’s commitment to excellence and dedication to nurturing talent.

Cosgriffe’s qualification for the Paralympics is a testament to her hard work, determination, and perseverance. She joined OAK in September 2022 and has been training with OAK’s highest performing group coached by Head Coach Dave Tontini. Her journey to this prestigious event is an inspiration to all members of the Oakville Aquatic Club and the broader community.

“I was hoping for a best time but that was a lot under what I thought I was going and it’s because I have so many teammates here to cheer me on and it really means a lot” – said Cosgriffe after her 100 Backstroke event. “I would definitely like to move up in the rankings, but at the end of the day it’s all about doing my best, going a best time. That’s what I’m focused on” – she added about her plans at the Paralympics.

Cosgriffe will compete in the 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke events (S10 category) at the Paralympics. She finished in first place in both events at the Swimming Trials and won bronze in 200m Individual Medley. Additionally, she broke two records: Canadian Para Record in 100 Butterfly (1:06.75) and Ontario Para Record in 100 Freestyle (1:02.71), both in the S10 category.

“OAK is incredibly proud of Katie’s nomination to Team Canada for Paris 2024” – commented Head Coach Dave Tontini on the achievement. “We are thrilled that Katie will continue to uphold OAK’s legacy of swimming excellence at the international level. Katie’s performances in the pool are rivaled only by her commitment to improvement and her integrity of character.”

Cosgriffe is one of 20 athletes who has been nominated to represent Canada at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. The Games will take place from August 28 to September 8 in Paris, France, where Canada is expected to send a team of approximately 140 athletes.

6 swimmers at trials. This club used to be relevant and a top club in Canada with some of Canadas top age group swimmers. It has fallen off a cliff in so many ways. Time for the President and Vice President to move on. Congratulations Katie on all your achievements. Oak congratulations on being the farm team for Eswim and other clubs in gta.
