Occoquan Swimming Inc.’s Mary Claire Tansill has given her verbal commitment to the University of Virginia for next fall. Tansill is a senior at Patriot High School.
Tansill’s Top Times
- 100y breast – 1:03.94
- 200y breast – 2:16.78
- 100m breast – 1:13.94
- 200m breast – 2:36.22
Tansill will get a year of overlap with German junior Laura Simon, who had an incredible meet at NCAAs in 2015. Simon placed 4th in the 100 breast and then was runner-up in the 200 breast, and she out-split the entire country on her breaststroke legs in both prelims and finals of the 400 medley relay at the meet.
With her times now, Tansill would’ve been UVA’s #5 100 breaststroker and their #4 200 breaststroker last season, and the Cavaliers graduated their #3 100 and 200 breaststroker Brodde Lamb after last season. They bulked up their breaststroke group with freshman additions Vivian Tafuto and Sara Stranick, so Tansill will have a strong group to train with when she gets to campus.
She would’ve just barely missed the C final at ACCs last year in the 100 breast, but would’ve made the 200 breast C final with her times now.
“I chose UVA because of the competitive and exciting team atmosphere, as well as the proven success of the women’s team. It is also the perfect combination of academics and athletics for me, and I can’t wait to be a Wahoo!!”
