Off the Deep End: Lochte's Gatorade Sponsorship Comes with 3 Olympic Gold Medals!

Gatorade was so excited about their sponsorship of Ryan Lochte, that they turned on the Midas touch and all of his Olympic medals into golds! The video below, posted via the Reezy Daily, starts with Ryan proclaiming at the 11 second mark that he has “6 Olympic gold medals and 4 World Records,” though in fact he’s won 6 total medals – only 3 of which have been gold. Perhaps this is a bit of foreshadowing, though, as Lochte will surely take at least 3 more in London.

But hey, we’re all guilty of minor mistakes from time-to-time. Aside from that, the video is awesome, and I think will give more casual sporting fans an inside look into what elite swim training is like (as compared to the neighborhood swim team that they were on as schoolchildren). Lochte’s strength coach, Matt DeLancey, is one of the best in the world, and he uses a great analogy to describe Lochte’s dryland routines.

“Farmers need a lot of consistency in their programs, but not a lot of variety, and hunters need to have tons of variety, and this guy’s a hunter.”

What he’s saying is that Lochte needs to be constantly challenged, from a mental and physical standpoint, with new exercises and strength routines to continue to improve. For a guy that strong, this can be both a difficult and a highly rewarding challenge for a strength coach. He also describes Lochte as a “freak among freak…among freak” athletes when referring to his natural athletic talent.

Check out the video below! (Gatorade would post an edited version later on, but that’s not as much fun.)

Truth be told, I’m obsessed with Missy Franklin and searched desperately for a segue with which to inject her into the discussion.

Thanks for contributing, 200breast. That was truly a well thought out and articulate statement contributing to the conversation. Please tell us more… Yeah and how did Missy Franklin get into this argument. I thought we were talking about how much of an awful person Ryan Lochte is.

It amazes me how Missy somehow gets thrown into every conversation even when they have absolutely nothing to do with her!
Back to lochte, I think people should honestly look past this video. It was a careless mistake get over it. After 2012 he most likely will have at least 6 gold medals. And rightfully so, he obviously trains extremely hard so he clearly deserves it.
Not to mention everyone is working their tails off, so we will all just have to wait and see in 9 months. Thanks for the video Braden!

Phelps may have been the one caught smoking a bong, but at least he doesn’t talk like he’s high all the time. “Um so yeah um dude i went um really hard on that race and um yeah um it was fun dude.”

The Lochte haters are out in full force tonight! I am continuously amazed at the number of people who get so passionately outraged on message boards when the conversation is regarding prospective 2012 event schedules of Lochte and Missy Franklin.

(Not at all related to the Gatorade commercial or the MP bong pic).

Ryan has a Twitter account, so instead of making these remarks on a message board, why don’t the people who are so upset about it ask him directly instead?

Okay, have you forgiven MP for his lifestyle choice? He made the choice of hanging out with people he didn’t know and should not have trusted.

You have every right to be upset, but the video was changed and edited to be accurate. I have a hard time believing that an elite level swimmer would honestly and truly lie about his accomplishments when he knows that swim fans know everything about the sport and will call that out as soon as it is aired.

I haven’t seen a quote from him or his representation about this either, so if you or someone else has one I would like to know as most would. To hear what they attribute this to,… Read more »

Yes I did, Coacherik, more than you know. I don’t approve of what he’s been doing in his personal life, but, it’s his life and he lives it the way he wants to. That photo is a tiny part of his privacy that came into public because someone sold it to a gossip mag, not because MP wanted it to be seen.
On the other hand, you have an athlete, his management, his official sponsor – all of them involved in making a commercial for wide audience. The athlete himself surely knows how many golds he won yet he’s telling a lie in order to deceive that audience. It’s not his private thing anymore, it’s a very public lie… Read more »
